David Koch has loved art ever since he was in grade school but didn’t
realize that he could also make a living at it until his second year at
Utah State University. Graduating in 1989 with an illustration degree he
worked as an illustrator and graphic designer for several companies for
the next seven years. David’s passion for fine art started soon after
graduation and he started selling his artwork with a local gallery. As the
demand grew for his paintings David began to formulate a plan where he
could devote more time to painting and in 1996 David quit his full time
job and started his own graphic design business with the intent of setting
aside more time for painting. Three years later David realized that his
business was successful but he had had even less time to paint than
before, so with some savings in the bank David decided to take the leap of
faith and as of January 1999 David is devoting his full efforts to the
fine art that is his passion.
"I enjoy painting various subjects including figures, still lifes and
landscapes. I try to capture the intimate aspects in my paintings and make
the painting say more than just the objects being painted." David
also strives to say as much as he can about a subject with the fewest
brush strokes. "I never cease to be amazed at how a few well placed
brush strokes can say so much," he says.
David, his wife Lori and five children, Thomas, Hannah, Megan, Mitchell
and Mallory have a home and studio in Bountiful, Utah. "I am very
blessed to be doing what I love while enjoying the support and company of
my family. I am very excited about the future where there is so much to
learn and discover."

BOUNTIFUL, UTAH — Bountiful-based painter David Koch was selected by the
Utah Republican Party to paint a painting which was presented to Vice
President Dick Cheney at the GOP Convention held in August. "I am
very honored to be selected for this commission" says Koch.
"This could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Koch, however,
is not unfamiliar with this type of honor. He was also commissioned by
Governor Leavitt to produce a painting for the inauguration at the
beginning of this year.
David Koch is a full-time oil painter who’s impressionistic painting
style is attracting the attention of local and national collectors. Some
of the artist’s most popular works are his historic pioneer and
religious themes, some of which have recently been selected to hang in the
LDS Nauvoo Temple. Dramatic landscapes, elegant still lifes and energetic
street scenes also demonstrate the broad range of this artist.
UTAH PAINTER NOTED AS "ARTIST TO WATCH" BY SOUTHWEST ART
MAGAZINE.
BOUNTIFUL, UTAH — Bountiful-based painter David Koch is profiled in
the June 2000 issue of Southwest Art Magazine as an "artist to
watch". While Mr. Koch’s work is already very familiar to local
collectors and galleries, he is now enjoying a national discovery of his
unique impressionist style. "Recognition like this goes a long way in
helping the career of an artist" explains Koch.
David Koch is a full-time painter with a uniquely loose and fluid painting
style. Some of the artist’s most popular works are his elegant still
life studies and energetic street scenes. Koch is also well known for his
eloquent studies of 19th century pastoral life and his poignant
pioneer vignettes. Painting primarily in oils, Koch’s work exhibits a
richness and depth that has captivated galleries and collectors throughout
the West.
